Thinking of being a Product Manager can be overwhelming. Usually in the starting times of your career, simply because it might be confusing as to where does a PM stand?
Some people think one should have a business degree and others say you should be knowing technical stuff. It's not like they are completely wrong, but how much correct are they?
To understand this, we should print below image in our heads.
A PM role according to me is all about knowing just enough to understand what a UX, Tech and Business teams are all about. Because these are the people you will be talking to on a daily basis. And a product will obviously be successful when there is a balance in them.
You need to know how to run a business, what tech needs to be used to achieve your goal and how the product should look. This means you should be aware about all the terms and areas required to make a product.
In most of the organizations there are dedicated teams for all these areas, so you can learn most of the things on the go. But if you are aiming to work for a startup, you need to learn all these from day 1.
If we would go to a detailed view, below are the teams which a PM coordinates with. The roles and teams differ in all the organizations, but basically these are the things that need to be thought about.
All these factors will be discussed in the upcoming blogs. But if you wish to know anything more about this blog, you may write to me either in comment section or contact me through my website.
Happy learning to you!
